The high cost of accidents in Curitiba

A human life is priceless. But aiming to alert drivers and pedestrians of the risks of irresponsibility in the traffic, traffic agencies from all over the country usually calculate the costs of the accidents that happen in urban areas. And those can be frightening: up until September 2008 Curitiba spent over R$ 200 million on traffic accidents. (Now the complete translated version) read more

Campaign: Bike-friendly Business

In Curitiba, local authorities didn't build any bike parking facility close to traffic-generating sites like schools, restaurants, shops, office buildings, universities or any other places except for the ones created for recreational use in parks or near a few bus stations (which are both inadequate, they stay in an open area and without surveillance. See some examples: Terminal Campina do Siqueira - Parque Tanguá - Terminal do Cabral).

So, to help cyclists to get around, we created a campaign called: Estabelecimento amigo da bicicleta(bike-friendly business) to identify places that already are, in some way, bike-friendly. These places will receive a stamp and will be listed in our official guide.

We will also contact other places to show how easy it is to become bike-friendly and how good this will be to their business and to the city.
